Three weeks ago, I posed the question: What is your favorite place to do business in Emmetsburg and why? Within hours, the post had well over 40 comments, so instead of a one time article, Beer and Junk will be making this a weekly column!
So here we are, the Top 10 Reasons to Shop Emmetsburg, Part 1!
Wentzel’s True Value
“Great hours, love that they are open on weekends.”
“Best service and they have everything. I always stop there to look for household items before I go to Wal-Mart or Menards.”
“It’s all about the hair!” And the nails, check out the incredible nail art and other good stuff here: Crown Salon
Gorgeously renovated with exposed brick and original tin tile ceiling, you have to see The Office in person to appreciate the building’s history. Plus, you’ll meet Katie, the brutally honest and hilarious owner who will flip you shit as she serves you beer. Don’t miss Power Hour on Fridays from 5-6 for $1 bottled beer and check out other nightly specials on their Facebook page here: The Office
Our amazing full service grocery store, “Everyone know you and helps with whatever you need!”
Emmetsburg Screen Printing
“Judi is fantastic and makes the cutest tops and baby items.” “It’s always a good time working with Judi on projects!”
If you haven’t been to Emmetsburg Screen Printing in awhile, you might be surprised to find out that they have expanded from just screen printing to include unique clothing and home decor, check them out on Facebook and stop in to see everything they have to offer.
Once Again Consignment
Once Again has saved my butt over and over again. What mom forgets to buy their kids snow boots before the first blizzard or dress clothes before a wedding? This one. I love being able to drop in and find high quality, like new clothing without leaving town or paying a fortune! It’s also a great place to consign anything our kids haven’t destroyed for store credit or cash. You can find their hours and consigning requirements here: Once Again Consignment
Celtic’s Beverage Co.
You guys, Tim and Roberta are amazing AND they keep boxes of white wine chilled in the cooler for those days when you just can’t wait for the refrigerator to do its thing. It’s miraculous. Boxes of wine take sooo long to get cold. Don’t see what you’re looking for on the shelves? Just ask, they are always accommodating about special orders and now accept debit and credit cards.
Blossoming Creations is a gorgeous green house and gift shop, I drool over their home decor and owner Shell Iwen’s green thumb every time I am in there. Most importantly, “They make custom orders in a rush.” Like, “I completely forgot it was my anniversary” rush and offer same day delivery. Check out their Facebook page for photos of their custom arrangements and personalized home decor here: Blossoming Creations
Mmmm, BBQ. Erika Thompson smokes some the best meat in the region and serves it with hearty sides like cheesy potatoes and cole slaw. The most mouth watering part? Homemade BBQ sauce. Lunch service is incredibly quick, and you can take it to go or sit and enjoy the handcrafted work of Thompson’s husband Paul in the cozy and eclectic dining area. Edgewater is open from 11-2 Monday through Friday for lunch and also offers catering. Check them out on Facebook for more info here: Edgewater BBQ
“It’s so nice to be able to put jammies on the kids and go uptown for a movie.” I couldn’t agree more, I just love this place and everything it brings to our community. The Riviera is convenient and super affordable and offers amazing things like free movies during the summer and winter school breaks. The Riviera can also be rented out for private meetings or parties. Check out upcoming showings and rental information on there website at www.emmetsburgmovies.com.
